안성시와 미 육군 험프리스가 상호 문화교류를 약속했다.

김보라 시장과 제프리 네이건 공보처장은 2월16일 시장 집무실에서 양측 관계자 등이 참석한 가운데 간담회를 갖고 상호 문화교류, 우호증진 방안 등을 논의했다.

이날 제프리 네이건 공보처장은 “타지에서 생활하는 기지내 군인들에게 가장 필요한 것 가운데 하나가 문화여가생활이다” 며 “시와 협력해 미군 대원과 가족들이 지역을 자주 방문하며 다양한 체험과 유대가 밀접해 지기를 희망한다”고 말했다.

이어 “기지내에 영문으로 된 안성시 관광 팸플릿을 배치하고 안성에서 진행중인 문화공연, 미술전시 등 각종 무료 콘텐츠를 홍보하며 소속 군인들에게 안성의 전통, 문화, 명소, 맛집 등을 적극 알리겠다”고 약속했다.

이에 김보라 시장은 “문화는 피부색과 언어를 뛰어 넘는 유일한 소통수단이다” 며 “안성이 자랑하는 천혜의 호수, 안성맞춤랜드, 고유의 먹거리 등을 기반으로 험프리스 군인들이 안성에서 힐링과 즐거움을 얻을 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”고 밝혔다.

또 김보라 시장은 “안성은 글로벌 축제로 도약하는 남사당 바우덕이 축제를 비롯해 농촌체험과 같은 다양한 즐길거리가 많다. 개인 뿐 아니라 가족단위가 편안히 방문할 수 있도록 다양한 프로그램을 공유하겠다”고 덧붙였다.

한편 시는 이날 간담회를 통해 험프리스 미군기지 일반인 개방행사에 맞춰 남사당놀이를 선보이는 등 구체적인 문화교류에 나설 계획이다.
